The Cham of Vietnam: History, Society & Art

This book is a collection of articles re-assessing the role of the Cham in Vietnamese history. Although the Cham never established a nation state, between the third and fifteenth centuries this people, with Malay connections overlaid with an Indianised civilisation, vied with the Vietnamese and Khmers for control of much of mainland Southeast Asia. The study of their history has been subject to different interpretations from the colonial to the revolutionary . Now that Vietnam has been able to emerge as a more confident nation state, their history can be re-assessed.
